  • Phylogenetic comparative methods in R
    Revell, Liam J. ; Harmon, Luke J.
"Phylogenetic comparative methods are a suite of statistical approaches that help biologists analyze and understand the evolutionary tree of life. By analyzing the tree of life scientists can learn ... about ecology, evolution, disease transmission, conservation biology, and other topics. This book will teach readers how to carry out phylogenetic comparative analyses in R. For each method, the book includes a brief conceptual overview, one or various worked examples with real data, and 3-5 challenge problems with answers supplied as an online supplement on the author's website (which we will link to). The scope of the book covers the basics of R, followed by sections on trait evolution, diversification (speciation and extinction), trait-dependent diversification, and visualization. Overall, the book covers all of the major areas within modern phylogenetic comparative methods. In 2015, Luke Harmon self published Phylogenetic Comparative Methods which, despite the similar title, is entirely conceptual and does no provide any guidance for how to actually implement the comparative methods described. Our book is entirely new and unique"--
