  • Intelligent system for redesign recommendations
    Novak, Marina, 1959-
In modern industrial societies the process of making new products normally cannot start before the shape, dimensions, materials, surface finishes, etc., are specified within design process. Design is ... a very complex iterative process. In most of the cases, the initial solution needs to be optimised regarding the results of the engineering analyses. A lot of knowledge and experience is needed to understand the results of the analysis, properly interpret them and consequently chose the right redesign actions to optimise the structure. Computer aided design tools are widely used during this process. Yet, in a present form computer-aided engineering programs still doesnot provide adequate tools for a proper interpretation and evaluation of the results. The main disadvantage of the existing software in this filed is a lack of "intelligent" advises about the optimisation steps that have to be taken in a certain design case. Thus, design optimisation still depends very much on designer's experience. The application of an intelligent advisory system for supporting design optimisation presented in this paper is proposed to make this process more experience independent.
