Slavistična revija, 09/2016, Volume: 64, Issue: 3Journal Article
The paper deals with travelogues written by women from the Slovene lands in the late 19th and the early 20th centuries. The primary focus is on the travelogues of Luiza Pesjak, Marica Strnad, Marica Gregorič Stepančič, Marija Kmet, and Alma Karlin. Women's travel has a special cultural status. Three aspects are considered in the article: genre peculiarities of the texts (purposes of travel, categories "one's own/other/foreign"), gender and national issues and the interconnection of them, as this this period when the struggle for the emancipation of women begins as well as the national identity actively takes shape.
