In this paper, field oriented control (FOC) scheme is employed to independently control the torque and flux of the Induction motor (IM) drive. The speed response of IM drive using scalar control suffers from sluggish response and yields more oscillation due to saturation in the machine. The speed response is improved by the field oriented control scheme. Three level diode clamped inverter is used in place of two level voltage source inverter and the PWM pulses are obtained from Space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) for both. The FOC of IM drive fed with three and two level inverter is simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment and their performances are compared at different operating conditions.
