The most recent scientific and commercial developments in the use of bioinsecticides based on Bacillus thuringiensis or on its toxins are presented. After a brief introduction to illustrate the main features of this bacteria and its advantages and disadvantages as an insecticide, a review is made of the most significant results in trying to improve its efficacy and delivery, particularly through the use of recombinant DNA technology. The prospects for further development of new, recombinant organisms for pest control are also briefly discussed.
