Optoelectronic elements are class of electronic elements used to generate light (such as LED or laser diode) or detect light (such as photodiode or phototransistor). This type of electronic elements, or more complex components based on these elements (for example, LED displays) are widely used in almost all areas of electronics, which is especially true for LEDs - from practical projects in STEM education to commercial electronic devices. In this paper, a short overview of basic properties of typical optoelectronic elements (LEDs, photodiodes, phototransistors and photoresistors) is given.
