Fundamentals of Diagnosing and Treating Eating DisordersBook Chapter
This case illustrates the patterns of eating that may be, or become, problematic, but that may not qualify as an eating disorder. Disordered eating and concerns about body image, remarkably common across the general population and not necessarily associated with a major mental illness, are reviewed, including the principles of evaluation and management. The diagnoses of other specified feeding or eating disorder (OSFED) and unspecified feeding or eating disorder (UFED), and how to appropriately use these diagnoses, new to DSM-5, are reviewed.
