  • Information content of myo-control signals for orthotic and prosthetic systems
    Vodovnik, Lojze ; Reberšek, Stanislav
Various muscles having some potential as control sites for orthotic or prosthetic systems were investigated regarding their information content. Three control modes, myoelectric, pressure and ... position, were tested with and without visual feedback. It was found that the highest information (about five bits) can be obtained with position control of the shoulder and visual feedback. The lowest information content was obtained with myoelectric control from the trapezius muscles and without visual feedback (about two bits). The gluteal and abdominal muscles which have never been used as control sites were also tested and it was found that they could be - in conjunction with pressure transducers - useful for orthotic or prosthetic devices.
