  • Sensitive detection of textile dyes in water by thermal lens spectrometry

    Thermal lens spectrometry (TLS) was used for sensitive detection of textile dyes Sandolan rot MF-2BL and Orange II in low absorbance water samples. The same dye samples were measured with the TLS ... spectrometer and a UV/VIS spectrophotometer for comparison. The measured values show very good agreement between the two techniques with discrepancies less than 10%. The high sensitivity of TLS is reflected in the limit of detection (LOD) of TLS measurements which was 2,9 [mu]g[over]l (3,6 x 10[sup]-5 cm[sup]-1) for Sandolan rot MF-2BL and 0,78 [mu]g[over]l (2,9 x l0[sup]-5 cm[sup]-1) for Orange II. These values represent an improvement of nearly 16 times compared to the LODs for spectrophotometry.
