  • Train positioning with European satellite navigation system Galileo

    The concepts of positioning and navigation fascinate humans from their beginning. Importance of navigation is growing fast on practically every field and of course railway systems are no exception. ... European satellite navigation system Galileo will pose an opportunity for navigation applications and railways will be able to use wide range of its benefits. Train integrity is only one of many railway fields on which Galileo will mostcertainly influence. The goal of the article is to present statistical model of satellite train navigation and supervision. We will also mention some generalized definitions of various elements needed for supervision. We will show two methods of integrity monitoring. First is a passive method which enables highly precise measurements. Second method is active method which is based mainly on navigation fault detection and on contaminated signal exclusion. We will also briefly mention mathematical methods for fault exclusions and precision improvements.
