  • Controlling the internal oxidation process by electrical resistance measurements [Elektronski vir]
Brunčko, Mihael ; Anžel, Ivan, inženir metalurgije in materialov ; Kneissl, Albert C.
Annealing of certain dilute alloys in reactive atmosphere containing species such as oxygen, nitrogen, carbon or sulfur results in the selective reaction of one of these elements with the less noble ... solute elements from the alloy and leads to a fine dispersion of formed particles in the solvent matrix. Thisphenomenon is known under generic name internal oxidation and is an important method for preparation of oxide dispersion strengthened metal matrixcomposites with improved mechanical properties at elevated temperatures. However, the method has many shortcomings that need to be overcome. For instance, the process of internal oxidation is very complex and therefore desired size and morphology of oxide particles throughout the matrixis not easy to control. To fulfill these requirements it is necessary tomonitor the internal oxidation process continuously. The present study showsone of the possible solutions of this problem. We used the in-situ electrical resistance measurements for controlling the internal oxidation process in metallic materials. For this purpose the unique laboratory device was set up. It is based on a special measurements cell and on an algorithm that transforms the electrical resistance into an instantaneous microstructuredefined by the parameters of internal oxidation kinetics.
