  • Planing surface texturing using surface roughness parameters [Elektronski vir]
    Sedlaček, Marko, 1978- ...
The aim of the present research was to confirm skewness and kurtosis parameters as two main roughness parameters which describe tribological properties of contact surfaces, especially pointing out ... their application in surface texturing. In previous research where influence of surface roughness on friction was investigated, it was found out, that surface roughness parameters as negative skewness (Rsk) and high kurtosis (Rku) lead to lower friction. Considering this the effect of surface texturing on surface roughness parameters was investigated. This was at first done virtually by altering real roughness profile in the form of channels with different size and shape, and calculating surface roughness parameters using NIST SMATS softgauge. Results showed that parameters resulting in higher Rku and more negative Rsk parameters and consecutively in lower friction are lower width, higher spacing and wedge-shaped profile of the dimples. To confirm these findings, series of 100Cr6 steel plate samples were laser textured in manner to achieve micro channels with different spacing and width of the channels. Lubricated reciprocating sliding under different contact conditions was done to evaluate the influence of micro channels on friction. Very good agreement between modelling predictions and test results was found.
