    Background. Skiing is very old activity. Ski injury spectrum and prevention change in years. Patients and methods. Analysis of injured skiers in General hospital Slovenj Gradec, Slovenia during the ... period of 25 years: retrospectively 1974/75-1983/84 and prospectively 1984/85-1989/99 with the useof special questionnaire. Results. 5615 injured skiers were reviewed, 3177 retrospectively, 2438 prospectively. Age range 2-67 years, on the average 14.5years. There were 35% injured females. 65% of injuries were located in thelower limbs and 26% in the upper limbs. The most common ski injuries were simple sprains of the ankle and fractures of the lower third of the lower legsat the beginning of observating period and upper two thirds of the lower legs and predominantly the knee in the late period. Female skiers more often injured their knee as male skiers (P <0.05). In the case of ski injury in 51% of accidents the ski boots were released from ski bindings. 29% of injured skiers were transported from the place of accident to the hospital inside one hour. The peak frequency of ski accidents with injuries were at 4 P. M. Conclusions. During 25 years period ski injury spectrum of fixed ski area essentially changed. Anatomical location of most frequent ski injuries moved from ankle to knee and his ligaments because of better prevention.
