  • Pogostost nekaterih značilnih ukrepov pri oskrbi bolnikov v prehospitalni enoti NMP glede na odzivni čas = The frequency of some typical procedures in patients during prehospital emergency care according to the response time
    Žmavc, Andrej
The need for emergency procedures in prehospital settings depends not solely on the patient's condition but is substantially related to the rescue circumstances where the whole prehospital time plays ... an important role. We were interested whether the rate of some typical EMS procedures differs according to the response time. We compared two groups of interventions, the group with a short response time (6 min. or less) - group 1, and the group with a long response time (17 min. or more - group 2. In both groups we compared the rate of endotracheal intubations, intravenous lines, ECG monitoring, application of analgesics and sedatives. A comparison was made separately for the life threatened patients and for all patients. The EMS service in Celje covers a territory of 812km2 with a population of 125,000. During the observation period from Jan. 1. 1996 to Feb. 28. 2000 there were 6273 interventions, 2777 (44.3%) within group 1 and 741 (11 .8%) within group 2. Group 2 has a significantly higher proportion of life threatened patients and a higher proportion of iv. lines, ECG monitoring, applications of analgesics and sedatives. We found no differences between the groups in patients' condition after the intervention at the time of arrival to hospital. The patients located at a further distance from hospital are heavily distressed on average and receive relatively more procedures during prehospital emergency care.
