  • Evaluation of seismic resistance of masonry buildings according to Eurocode 8

    The design provisions for the earthquake resistance of structures that are issued in the form of European structural codes introduce the strengthening and repair of buildings in a separate part. ... Masonry structures are one of four structural types that are considered. According to Eurocodes the evaluation of the overall safety of low-rise masonry buildings can be carried out by the static global non-linear method. This kind of method was developed in Slovenia and introduced in design practice after the 1976 Friuli earthquake. It permits performance evaluation of masonry structures based on deformation-controlled analysis. In this paper, the application of the method is demonstrated in the case of heritage building. Its seismic resistance is evaluated according to the old Slovenian codes and to theEurocode 8 that has been introduced in practice as a new Slovenian code
