    In this article we present viseme recognizer included in embodied conversational agents. Embodied conversational agents are computer-generated cartoon like characters that demonstrate many of the ... same properties as humans in face-to-face conversation, including the ability to produce and respond to verbal and nonverbal communication. Depending on the scenario of the application the user may be or not aware of the operator's involvement. A real-time viseme recognizer is needed to assure proper response of the agent (visemes need to be aligned with speech and lip movements). A primary goal wasto minimize the amount of latency induced by the recognizer, and to make the remaining latency explicit, in order to obtain a better synchronization between the agent and the speech signal. With speaker adaptation viseme recognition error of 22% absolute with the latency of 500ms was achieved.
