  • Semiotika glasa u kazališnoj predstavi
    Podbevšek, Katarina
The aim of this short research was to establish whether voice can be viewed as individual aspect of actor's speech, especially if speech (according to Škarić) represents a unity of text and voice. We ... wanted to see whether certain prosodic features can be percieved as prevailing in speech, making voice a separate theatric sign which can mask the textual level of speech. Twenty students of the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television rated voice and text in actor's speech as well as the degree of perception of prosody in four segments from Waiting for Godot. In all segments students perceived the markedness of certain prosodic features, especially, high pitch, timbre and particularities in pronunciation, while text was rated as less informative than voice. The textual level of speech showed the inadequacyof dividing actor's speech into two layers. Theatric semiotics should differentiate between the expressiveness of actor's voice and his/her pronunciation. Theatric semiotics should also consider voice and text as two theatric signs (or systems of signs) and not necessarily as sometimes harmonically joined.
