  • Circular economy oriented sewage sludge thermal treatment solutions

    Introduction of circular economy calls for a complete change of sewage sludge treatment methods. Achieving maximum volume reduction and energy recovery is being replaced by improvements in material ... recovery. The reasons for this are in sludge composition, which features high ash content with important substances such as phosphorous. The question thus appears of how to design sludge treatment systems to obtain the ash that is suitable for further material recovery. To guide the way, a versatile prototype system for optimisation of sewage sludge thermal treatment and the supporting numerical models for accurate and scalable predictions of process characteristics were developed.
