  • Ice jet machining : presentation of the prototype development

    During the last few years different research groups have been developing systems fortransformation of abrasive water jet into ice jet, where the use of mineral abrasive is being replaced with ... iceparticles. This can be achieved in several different ways. In this paper we present the results from thecombined research work between University of Ljubljana (SI) and Tecnalia (ES), which has been done ondeveloping the prototypes for generation of the Ice Jet (IJ) technology. More specifically the development ofthe prototype which generates the ice particles inside the mixing chamber of the cutting head by partialtransformation of the high speed water jet into ice particles. This is accomplished by injection of the cryogenicgas into the mixing chamber. The prototype uses the high pressure water that is being precooled bellow itsfreezing point prior entering the cutting head.
