  • The effects of different grass-cover mixtures on the inorganic N in the soil and botanical composition of the sward in a vineyard

    The effects of green covering with grass-clover mixtures on inorganic N in thesoil and botanical composition of clover crops were studied in a young vineyard. Three mixtures with different ... proportions of Trifolium repens, Lolium perenne, Festuca rubra and Poa pratensis were compared with a control (natutal covering). The experiment (randomised block design) was being carriedout for four years in the eastern Slovenian conditions. In three moths after sowing, grass-clover mixtures mostly covered the soil, but in the control, plants covered the soil not earlier than in the next year. Trifolium repens was the most increasing species in the botanical composition of sward in the first two years, but in the third and fourth years of the experiment its proportions in the botanical composition decreased rapidly. It treatments with grass-clover mixtures, there was higher amount of inorganic N in the soilin the third and fourth years of the experiment in comparison to the control.
