  • Application of lean methods into design process of large power transformers [Elektronski vir]
Varl, Mitja ; Tavčar, Jože, 1966- ; Duhovnik, Jože, 1948-
The paper presents application of lean engineering methods at design process re-engineering. Lean principles are harder to implement in an one-of-akind production environment rather than in an ... environment of a serial production, where there are almost no changes during production process. There are considerable differences in value-added activities that characterize lean production on one hand and lean development on the other. Unlike production, development process creates a value-added work with new operations. Taking rational risk is a main component of effective research activity. The frame of research is design process and its directly related activities. The first objective is to produce a representative overview of the development and design process for the transformer. On the basis of this analysis critical moments that generate bottlenecks in the work process or cause redundant tasks need to be identified. A key challenge is the integration of various software tools in an integral information system. The ultimate goal is to establish a renovated model of design process that will comply with individual production principles, with the principles of lean and concurrent development and will, with its development into a generalized form, represent a universal solution for individual type of production. The solution of an efficient and robust flow of information throughout the entire process will be demonstrated on the individual production of large power transformers.
