    Tractors of different forms are the prevailing skidding machines in Slovenia. Technical properties of specific machine can be obtained from the general information of the manufacturer, but they are ... not sufficient for making a decision as to whether the tractor matches stand and terrain conditions of thearea. The goal of the trial was to measure chosen technical parameters during timber skidding under controlled conditions. The WOODY 110 (hydrostatic-mechanical) forestry cable-skidder and the small adapted AGT 835 T agricultural tractors with hydrostatic-mechanical and mechanical transmissions (all three made in Slovenia) were chosen for this comparison. The skidding trails had a concave profile, with almost zero inclination at thelower end and a maximum inclination of 42% when skidding with a skidder and27% when skidding with an agricultural tractor. The loads were formed of four (WOODY 110) and one (AGT 835 T) pieces. The loads of different sizes (WOODY 110: 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6m3; AGT 835: 0,25, 0,5,.1m3) were designed in sucha way that in every load the timber was oriented either top-end or butt-end forward. The loads were dragged downhill and uphill (in this case thetractor sometimes stopped on different slopes because of too a burden). Tractors were equipped with instruments, amplifiers and a portable computer for data acquisition. readings on wheel, torque and slip were recorded on eachwheel. Vertical and horizontal forces were recorded on the winch for hanging loads. The data analysis is still in progress but the results have already shown great interdependence between measured technical parameters, direction of skidding, weight of the load and skid track inclination. The differences between three tractors are evident too.
