  • Načela preprečevanja okužb v povezavi z žilnimi pristopi = Principles of intravascular catheter infection prevention
Kompan, Lidija ; Gaspari, Lea ; Dolinšek, Mojca, 1952-
Intravascular catheters are used with increasing frequency; therefore, catheter infections are many. They are associated with increased morbidity, mortality, and duration of hospital stay. Risk ... factors in the development of catheter colonisation and subsequent bloodstream infection include patient andtreatment-related factors. Infection rate is influenced by the lack of asepsis during catheter insertion, frequent manipulation of the catheter and prolonged catheter indwelling time. The most important factor is catheter careafter placement. Moreover, catheter material, insertion place, infusion system treatment and infusions also influence it. Reducing the catheter infection rates therefore requires a multiple-strategy approach. Strict guidelines and protocols for the catheter insertion, care, and maintenance should be applied and continuous personnel education performed.
