    The combination of conservation surgery and radiation therapy for favourable cases of breast cancer is an alternative to radical or modified radical mastectomy. The radiotherapy typically consists of ... a dose (45-50 Gy) which is delivered externally followed by irradiation (15-25 Gy) to the tumour bed using electron beams or an interstitial implant. The Ir-192 implant technique, as well as a method for dose calculation for local boosting therapy are described. First results with this approach are satisfactory. The advantages and limitations of the method are discussed.
