  • Interferential type of climate, reason for damages to overhead lines

    The subjecy article deals with the consequence of catastrophic ice and rime-frost loads on an overhead line which was build in an area of the interference between the mediterranean and continental ... type of climate. These phenomena are limited to one place and have been reported four times during the last decade. The overhead line stability was threatened, which could not have been anticipated at time the overhead line was designed and constructed. Damages, mechanisms of collapsing and basic principles of reconstruction, based upon the rainstatement of the structures without any special strengthening, are described. To assure safe operation, it was finally decided to relocate the threatened right-of-way section.
