  • Novosti v zdravljenju glivičnih okužb = New treatment options for fungal infections
    Beović, Bojana ; Lejko-Zupanc, Tatjana
Serious underlying diseases, demanding diagnostics and poor choice of antifungal drugs make treatment of invasive fungal infections very difficult. Recently, the choice of antifungal drugs was ... enlarged by lipid forms of amphotericin B, azole voriconazole and the first clinically used echinocandin caspofungin. Lipid formulations of amphotericin B proved to be at least as effective and certainly safer than conventional amphotericin B. Voriconazole and caspofungin proved their safety as well. Clinical studies established voriconazol as an important drug for treatment of invasive aspergillosis. Caspofungin is especially effective against Candida including non-albicans Candida species. Caspofungin was also effective in several patients who failedprevious treatment of invasive aspergillosis.
