    Detection of cutting tool condition is essential for faultless machining in flexible manufacturing systems. The aim of this study was to develop the accurate and reliable monitoring of tool condition ... in end milling operations. This paper discusses the advantages of a vision system as an observation technique of tool condition during end milling. By integration of machine vision with indirect toll wear measurement technique an automatic tool condition monitoring system is developed. The indirect technique is based on force measurements and neuro-fuzzy algorithm which is trained to predict the amount of tool wear. The machine vision system signals and the output of error compensation module were applied to a decision system which can guide machine tool control system or operator in tool change decisions making. The task of the error compensation module is to facilitate the compensation of surface errors in machining caused by tool wear or tool deflection.
