  • Power consumption, gas hold-up and interfacial area in aerated non-Newtonian suspensions in stirred tanks of square cross-section

    Power consumtion, gas hold-up and interfacial area were measured during carbonization of lime suspensions in laboratory and semi-industrial stirred tanks of square cross-section. It was found that ... power consumtion was not changed by the non-Newtonian properties of hydrated lime and precipitated calcium carbonate suspensions. On the other hand, a substaintial systematic decrease of gas hold-up and interfacial area was observed as the concentration of solid matter increased. Correlations of these experimental data were obtained by introducing additional terms, which contain the average effective viscosity of suspensions, into existing correlations.
