  • Riverstream pollution caused by the water release at Moste Dam Reservoir: a guide for bottom outlet operating rules

    In the years 1952, 1953, 1964, 1974 water was released from the reservoir Moste. Last release resulted in a detrimental environmental impact downstream. This operation has been carefully monitored ... enabling an insight in the events that followed the release. Many documents were issued on the basis of data, which allowed for detail studies of this major disaster on the Sava river. After second gate was built and put in operation the release of water through bottom outlet ceased to be practised. In given situation it has been omitted to provide for operating rules for the bottom outlet, taking into account polluted sediments released downstream, which today presents the major threat to the dam safety. The environmental impact of release downstream is presented, providing a rationale for solution of the problem and guide in the establishment of operating rules to be approved by authorities in the nearest future.
