    In this article, we compare two approaches of learning: Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL), introduced in the Slovenian mathematics education recently, and Problem-Based Learning (PBL) that has not been ... used often in Slovenian education. Common characteristics of both approaches are emphasised and the main differences of both active and student-centred approaches are analysed. We pose a real-world problem that can be used in PBL as well as in IBL for students in mathematics classroom. The problem triggers new statistical contents that need to be learned by students in general secondary schools.
