Učinki fizioterapije po zlomu kolka pri starostnikih = Effects of physiotherapy after hip fracture in elderly people

Objectives: The number of elderly population is increasing. Hip fracture following falls is the most frequent injury occurring with elderly people suffering from osteoporosis. The purpose of the ...present thesis is to describe the effects of the physiotherapy in elderly people after hip fracture. Methods: Overview of published medical research based on searching the Medline, Pub Med and Pedro basis. The chosen articles were published between February 1987 and February 2002 and dealt with valuation of effects of physiotherapy after hip fracture in elderly people. Results: Five basic research investigations were chosen which determined effects of physiotherapy after hip fracture in elderly people with evaluating muscle strength, gait velocity, quadriceps training, transfer and mobility in bed, level of physical independence, body balance amd mobility. Selection criteria were elderly people at the age of more than 65 years with hip fracture, control group and evaluation of physiotherapy effects. Conclusions: Decline of physical functioning in elderly patients after hip fracture are presented. With the chosen programme of physiotherapy the functional abilities improve. The effects of physiotherapy are shown by improvement of muscle strength, gait velocity and body balance. Rehabilitation programme has influence on the improvement of level of physical independence in elderly people and shortens the duration of hospitalisation.
