    Purpose: In August 2014, water again showed its power and superiority over the wrong decision of man. In the second half of the 20th century, many major and minor natural floods were fatal for ... people, society and archival material, which affected e.g. Florence in 1966, Nova Gorica in 1983, the Celje area in Slovenia in 1990, big part if Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland in 2002, Železniki and Škofja Loka area in Slovenia in 2016 and in Avgust 2024 a considerable part of central and northern Slovenia. In this paper. We present the problem of floods and the rescue of flooded archival material. Method/approach: The causes of floods, the preservation plan, the response to the disaster, the elimination of the consequences of floods, the transfer of materi-al from the place of the flood, preparedness for freezing, drying and disinfection of archival material are present. A table with a schematic overview of the solu-tion of individual types of archival material is also given. Results: From the analyses carried out after individual floods. It turned out that the most effective measure is only a good preventive system.Conclusions/findings: It is very important to have a good awareness of the con-sequence of floods, especially of all leading persons in institutions and political positions.
