  • Integrirano izvajanje zobozdravstvene preventive = Integrated approach to preventive dental care
    Borovšak-Bela, Darinka
Modern findings about dental caries and gum diseases have contributed to a different approach to dentistry, especially in the field of child dental care.Childrens dentists were amongst the first to ... realise that fighting those diseases is best achieved with a strong and carefully planned prevention. Instead of the standard procedure of drilling, filling, and billing the main aim of modern dentistry is to preserve ones natural teeth and healthy periodontal tissue for as long as possible. The oral cavity is the entrance toour organism. It is responsible for vital bodily functions and shapes the appearance and self image of a person. Every malfunction or disease in the mouth influences our general health. As tooth decay, periodontal disease and aneglected oral cavity represent general medical and social problems, preventing them should be in the interest of all areas of medicine, health politics and education. Finding a suitable, solution should be of national interest. Everyone concerned about health should cooperate and thereby work towards an integrated approach to preventive dental care. An excellent preventive plan means well thought-out, responsible and economic behaviour: itis a long term investment into the individual as well as the society, and, consequently, an investment into HEALTH. We should not be aftraid of seeking long-term solutions and put our efforts into convincing those, who might thinkotherwise.
