    Background: Sexual activity of adolescents is related to risks of sexually transmitted infections, unwanted pregnancies and infertility. Pregnancy and delivery of adolescents are related to increased ... health risks and socio-economical consequences for adolescent mother and a child. Methods: There have been done four studies on sexual behaviour of secondary-school students in Slovenia: sexual behaviour of Ljubljana secondary-school students (1989 and 1994) and sexual behaviour of secondary-school students in Slovenia (1996 and 2004). Results: In 1996 there was 38% of sexually active secondary-school students aged 17 years and in 2004 the percentage increased to 53%. Median age at the first sexual intercourse decreased from 18.5 to 17 years. The use of effective contraception increased: in 1996 contraceptive pill was used by 14% sexually active secondary-school students aged 17 years and in 2004 by 32%; condom use was 69% (1996) and 9% (2004). Knowledge on contraception and other sexually transmitted infections, except aids, was low.A change in interpersonal communication was noted: in 1996 the most appropriate source on information were friends and parents and in 2004 professionals and different sources. The rate of girls vith homosexual contacts increased from 2.5% to 10%.
