  • Classification of red wine varieties by anthocyanin analysis = Klasifikacija vrst rdečih vin po vsebnosti antocianinov
Eder, Reinhard ; Wendelin, Silvia ; Barna, Josef
The anthocyanin composition of 88 grape samples and 145 wine samples of eleven red wine varieties from eight Austrian wine regions and five vintages (1990 to 1994) was determined by RP-HPLC. Relative ... peak areas of anthocyanin-3-glucosides and the sum of acetylated anthocyanins and the sum ofcumarylated anthocyanins were used as chemotaxonomic criteria. By means of hierarchical cluster analysis the highest chemotaxonomical similarity in grapes was found with the cultivars Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon as well as with Zweigelt and Blauer Portugieser. In wine samples the varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc as well as Zweigelt and Blauer Portugieser exhibited highest resemblance. As expected the new cultivars Zweigelt and Blauburger ranged between their parents Sankt Laurent and Blaufrönkisch and Blauer Portugieser and Blaufrönkisch, respectively.Employing stepwise discriminant analysis 96,4 % of grape samples could be correctly classified according to their cultivar identity. Especially the cultivars Blaufrönkisch, Blauburger, Sankt Laurent, Blauer Burgunder (Pinot Noir), Cabernet Franc, Blauer Wildbacher and Trollinger could all be correctly classified. With the cultivars Zweigelt and Blauer Portugieser slight overlaps occured. One sample of the cultivar Cabernet Sauvignon was falsely classified as Merlot. With wines93,8 % of the samples were correctly classified, only two samples of Zweigelt, two samples of Blauburger and two samples of Merlot were incorrectlyclassified.
