Chronic mesenteric angina or intestinal angina is a clinical syndrorne of reduced mesenteric blood flow that interferes with physiologic function but does not cause infarction. Chronic mesenteric ... angina is the result of intestinal hypoperfusion through significant stenosis or occlusion of two out of three major arteries supplying the intestine (celiac artery, superior and inferior mesenteric arteries). Patients complain of postprandial abdominal pain with a fixed interval 15-30 minutes after meal, fear of eating and weightloss. The current gold standard to diagnose mesenteric angina is biplaneaortography, while mesenteric Duplex ultrasound examination is emergingas a useful screening modality. Treatment consists of antiatherosclerotic recommendations, drugs (antiaggregation agents, statins, antidiabetics, antihypertensive drugs), percutaneous angioplasty and surgical revascularization. The contribution illlustrates an interesting case of 43 years old patient with abdominal pain and delayed diagnosis of chronic mesenteric angina.
