  • Stresna kardiomiopatija = Stress cardiomyopathy
    Starc, Radovan
Stress cardiomyopathy (SKM) (synonymes: stress-induced cardiomyopathy, Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, apical ballooning syndrome, "broken-heart" syndrome)is a novel urgent clinical syndrome consisting of ... an acute, severe and reversible unique form of cardiomyopathy following emotional stress. The main features of syndrome are sudden emotional stress preceding sudden chest pain and appearence of an acute doterioration of left ventricular contractility with a pathognomonical left ventricular shape and normal coronary angiogram. The onset of SKM is very similiar to acute myocardial infarction (chest pain, ECG changes, mildly elevated troponine), but SKM differs completely regarding pathophysiological background, natural history, managment, complication rate and prognosis. The author illustrates a typical case of SKM.
