  • Kinetics of ▫$Na^+-H^+▫$ ion exchange in diluted and concentrated buffer solutions of sodium acetate and acetic acid
Plazl, Igor ; Koloini, Tine, 1940-2008
▫$Na^+-H^+ ion exchange between a fixed bed of Lewatite S 100 cationic ion exchange resin in R-H form and buffer solutions of sodium acetate and acetic acid at room temperature (298K) was studied ... both experimentally and theoretically. In the prediction of the break-through curves particle and film diffusion resistance were considered. The variation of diffusion coefficient with the composition of the solid phase was accounted for by application of a Nernst-Planck model. In order to determine the influence of particle diffusion on the overall mass transfer rate of the process at low concentration, an analytical solution was obtained. Parametric sensitivity of the model was also investigated. A very favorable shape of the break-through curves in the case of diluted and concentrated buffer properties on equilibrium , what we have shown already in our previous work, where we investigated the kinetics of Na^+-H^+ ion exchange in concentrated buffer solutions of sodium tetraborate and boric acid (1). The experimental data were compared with results of the computer simulation and with an analytical solution for external film control.$▫
