  • Structural reliability analysis of nonlinear systems

    In addition to traditional reliability methods such as Monte Carlo simulation and first-order second moment, a relatively new response surface approach has been recently introduced in reliability ... analysis. The main advantage of the response surface method is its independence of the method used to solve the mechanics of the problem, since the reliability analysis is performed on the fitted response surface. This enables use of the method in a wide variety of problems. Difficulties may arise, however, when using this approach. Some of them and associated solutions are introduced in this paper. The use of derivatives of the response with respect to input variables in the approximation procedure is given
