    In the paper the description of spawning channel at the Mavčičie dam site is given. After a careful consideration of performance of fish pass, which was assessed to be inefficient in the long run, it ... was decided to build spawning channel instead of firstly planned fish pass. The reason was that the fish were closed between obstructions at both ends of the river stream: Majdičev weir at the upper part and Zbilje pondage at the lower part. Thus the migration was already limited. However, the planned Mavčiče impoundment would flood most of the remanining spawning areas which were to become scarce. Having had a through discussion with all parties involved and without particular claims of naturalists for the preservation of the migration path, a spawning channel was decided to be built. First experiences with the operation of the channel have been better than expected. Ichtyologists suggest to construct some additonal capacities to accommodate all the species in the pond. They also agree that the same approach is to be applied for other projects in Slovenia.
