  • Structural analysis of a circular plate supported along two edge arcs and loaded by a central transverse force

    A mechanical analysis is presented for a solid circular plate, deflected by a transverse central force, and bilaterally supported along two diamterically opposite periphery arcs, the remaining part ... of the boundary being free. By exploiting Green`s function expressed in analytical closed form , the original problem is formulated in terms of Fredholm`s integral equation of the first order where the unknown function is the reaction force distribution along the supporters for an imposed plate central deflection. This initial integral equation is then simplified and reformulated in terms of a singular integral equation with Hilbert`s kernel encountered in wing theory, which permits the reaction force distribution to be determined by properly selecting a series expression for the reaction force, and by determining the series coefficients through the collocation method. The link between the plate central deflection and the angular extent of the supports is then computed from the initial integral equation. Preliminary numerical forcests and experimental readings in terms of normalized plate central deflection versus angular extent of the supports are also presented.
