  • Phase equilibrium (solid-liquid-gas) in the system polyethyleneglycols-nitrogen
    Weidner, Eckhard ...
For the design of processes for the formation of solid particles using supercritical fluids, i.e. rapid expansion of supercritical solutions (RESS), gas antisolvent recrystallization (GASR) and ... particles from gas saturated solutions (PGSS), data on the phase transition solid-liquid as a function of pressure have to be known. The experiments on the S-L phase transition of polyethylene glycols of a molar mass of 1500 g/mol(PEG 1500), 4000 g/mol (PEG 4000) and 3500 g/mol (PEG 3500) in the presence of nitogen were performed in a high pressure optical cell. The melting points under pressure and the solubility of nitrogen in liquid PEG`s were determined. It was found that the pressure affects the melting point of all polyethyleneglycols. For the system PEG 1500 N2 the melting point increases with increasing pressure already from 1 bar. For PEG 400 and 3500 g/mol at lower pressures a certain melting point depression was found. The melting point in the binary system PEG/N2 dcreases with the increasing pressure for PEG 400 u to 31 bar and laterincreases with the increasing pressure. For PEG 3500 a minimum was found at 63 bar. The data were compared with the systems PEG/CO2.
