    The capability of SAR to exploit signal phase in interferometry has given rise to many new applications such as ocean wave analysis, study of tectonic activity, glaciology and topography. Because of ... large amount of data produced by interferometric SAR, data compression methods becomes necessary. Compressing method for single look complex SAR data based on discrete wavelet transform was developed and tested with interferometric SAR data. A compression method is composed of three main elements: discrete wavelet transform, uniform quantization and recency rank based loss-less coding. We can comprese complex SAR data in cartesian format or complex SAR data in polar format. For interferometric application, a smaller reduction factor for data compression is allowed in order to maintain the phase accuracy of the complex SAR data. The results show that the coding of interferometric SAR data in polar format lead to smaller phase and amplitude errors than in cartesian format, but errors for real and imaginary part are larger.
