  • Introducing the concept of frequency domain by using interactive teaching program

    In the paper we present a graphical approach to the introduction of frequency domain decomposition. First, we discuss the need and the motivation to illustrate the Fourier decomposition in a clear, ... visually appealing and unmistakable representation. Then we identify all components of such a representation and build a three-dimensional time-frequency-amplitude space. In the second part of the paper we present an implementation of the described idea in the form of a computer program. Several versions have been developed, we have found a Java applet for an Internet browser as a very appropriate both from aspects of software access and distribution as well as from aspect of interactive 3D graphic performance. At the end we summarise our up-to-now collected experience in using the program at different educational levels and give some alternative implementation solutions.
