  • Improved operating characteristics of radial turbomachines by adding secondary flow at impeller entrance diameter
    Predin, Andrej, 1961-
This paper gives the results of experimental analyses of the influence of added secondary flow on the operating characteristics of radial turbomachines. The secondary flow is added at the impeller ... entrance into the guide system which ends with a circle-ring at the impeller intake diameter near the impeller front shroud. The guide vanes are set in the circle-ring guide system in the direction of the intake pipe axis. They assure an axial symmetrical non-whirl secondary flow at the impeller intake. The atmospheric, i.e. the non-force driven secondary flow loading is performed with a volute guide system placed at the entrance of the circle-ring guide system. Basedon the presented experimental results we may conclude that the secondary flow influences favourably the operating characteristics of radial impellers. The stable operating area increases in the direction of small operating capacities (thus giving the possibility for a wider pump regulation). At the same time the overall efficiency is increased, especially in the area of small and under-optimal capacities.
