  • Evaluation technique for dynamic moduli
    Bossemeyer, Hans Georg
For a proper design of tire materials and acoustic absorbers, detailed information about temperature and frequency dependent elastic moduli of rubbers is essential. Dynamic Young's modulus data ... depicted in a complex plane determine whether a material is thermo-rheologically simple or not. But even if all data points fit well to a single curve, suggesting simple behavior, severe systematic errors can be involved. A new evaluation technique which relies on well-known visco-elastic material models is introduced to detect systematic errors and to obtain more reliable Young's modulus frequency spectra. Considering physical restrictions, a fractional derivative model is suggested which is more sophisticated than Cole-Cole. A formula for relaxation times t(T) holding for temperatures above as well as below glass temperature is also suggested.
