    In Serranus scriba, 5-HT acted on scin pigmentation contrary-wise to reserpine. Reserpine and cinobufotenine produced the coloration spontaneously displayed by the relaxed fish during the warm ... season. 5-HT and amphetamine caused colour changes similar to those seen when the fish was alarmed. In mice, 5-HT protected them against a lethal dose of amphetamine. The protection was less consistent than that afforded by reserpine, and nil when 5-HT had been given intracerebrally. 5-HTPH increased the amphetamine toxicity. The action of reserpine was hardly influenced by depletion of the brain 5-HT stores. Experiments with carbamylcholine suggested that the tranquillizing function of reserpine may be causally linked with its parasympathomimetic property.
