  • Emotionen als Erinnerungensimpulse im autobiographischen Text Mehr Meer von Ilma Rakusa
    Jesenovec, Barbara, 1986-
The aim of this contribution is to present the autobiographical work of Ilma Rakusaʼs Mehr Meer ("More Sea") from the point of view of the presence and presentation of emotional components in the ... text. With the help of the process of reminiscing, the author describes the most intense moments of her life and childhood, but at the same time sheds light also on her later life. Her work is thus imbued with emotional descriptions brought about by her reflecting on her past. The authorʼs experience of life and the world falls into two opposite and at the same time complementary poles. On the one hand, frequent migrations, the changing of countries, new beginnings and changes all cause emotions like fear, loneliness, unsteadiness and a sense of being different. On the other hand, there emerges a kind of an alternative world with themes and motifs which give the author/narrator a feeling of security, stability and a respite from the continual changes. The analysis of the way emotions are described shows that there are two prominent and different narrative techniques in the text. The first one directly and simply names emotions, but is rarely used. The second, more frequent, one is more indirect and includes a number of different (formal) literary strategies.
