    In this thesis, we examined the communicative approach in practice. The focal point of the practical aspect of this approach was the course book. Two course books, considered 'communicative', were ... evaluated in order to discover if their communicative nature of their activities is, in fact, predominant and can be thus considered innovative and communicative. The thesis begins with the presentation of main theoretical studies on the communicative approach and methodology. The objective of the theoretical part was to find the definitions and the criteria with which to evaluate two course books of the English language, and two course books dealing with the French language. The second part of the thesis is designed to descriptively and empirically support or abandon the hypothesis that the chosen course books are, in fact, communicative. The narrative involves the description and evaluation of the table of contents and the individual activities of one representative unit. The empirical aspect is realised through a set of tables on the communicative nature of activities and their result in the form of diagrams and commentary.
