The topic of this diploma work titled Daj - dam in Slovenian and Serbo-Croatian language and Na ti go - daj mi go in Macedonian language is poetry, precisely, poetry, which was translated between ... 1945 and 1975 from Serbo-Croatian and Macedonian language to Slovenian language and vice versa. The corpus contains all books of poetry, which were translated and published during this period in former Yugoslavia. The main aim of this paper is to establish the quality of translated poems. The most important fact for the chosen period is that almost every translator was also a poet, which implicate that the translator should have literary artistic competence and that it was the main criterion for translating poetry. Besides the fact that the translator should have a literary artistic competency, linguistic competency is also important as much as other specific translation competences so the translator could offer semantically equivalent translation. The paper consists of the theoretical part and the analysis. In the theoretical part basic facts about translation process are given, particularly on translating poetry; thus in this part of the work also the information on different systems of versification and different principles of versification for each language can be found. Each translator should know something about the author, whose text is being translated and also should be familiar with the author's poetics and the basic characteristics of the periodwith the literary historical facts. Therefore the analysis contains also all the information listed previously besides comments on translated poems. Analysis of translated poems showed that translation requires many sacrifices and compensations; that is the reason why there in the translations have been found many deviations from original texts. Many of those are motivated, but unfortunately, there are also unmotivated ones. The most frequent deviations can be noticed at the semantic level of translated poems.
